Physician specialists with the largest homes

About 26 percent of plastic surgeons live in a home that is over 5,000 square feet, the most of any specialty, according to Medscape's "Physician Wealth and Debt Report 2023."

The report surveyed 10,011 physicians across more than 29 specialties about their income, net worth, and more from Oct. 7 to Jan. 17. 

Here are the percentages of specialists who live in a home larger than 5,000 square feet: 

Plastic surgeons: 26 percent

Orthopedics: 25 percent 

Otolaryngology: 21 percent 

Cardiology: 19 percent 

General surgery: 17 percent 

Urology: 17 percent 

Ophthalmology: 16 percent 

Gastroenterology: 15 percent 

Radiology: 15 percent 

Emergency medicine: 13 percent

Critical care: 13 percent 

Anesthesiology: 13 percent 

Oncology: 13 percent 

Dermatology: 12 percent 

OB-GYN: 12 percent 

Pathology: 11 percent 

Nephrology: 10 percent 

Neurology: 10 percent 

Pediatrics: 9 percent 

Psychiatry: 9 percent 

Public health and preventive medicine: 9 percent 

Diabetes and endocrinology: 9 percent 

Internal medicine: 8 percent 

Physical medicine and rehabilitation: 8 percent 

Pulmonary medicine: 8 percent 

Rheumatology: 8 percent 

Allergy and immunology: 7 percent 

Family medicine: 7 percent 

Infectious disease: 4 percent
