Boston Medical Center officials reported outpatient procedures have increased their patient service revenue by 8.2 percent to $265 million in the first quarter of 2016 due to higher surgery volume, according to Boston Business Journal.

1. During the quarter, total cases increased from 144 cases to 5,480 cases, which the hospital, in large part, accredits to more outpatient surgeries.
2. The hospital also had more emergency room visits and observation cases, attributing to a higher case volume.
3. "Generally our payer mix and service mix is stronger this year,” said Richard Silveria, Boston Medical Center's senior vice president of finance and chief financial officer. "Our volume is up in surgery which is a real driver of revenue. All in all, the performance in terms of the kinds of business is better."
