New York ASC under investigation following data breach

Oklahoma City-based law firm Federman & Sherwood has initiated an investigation into a November data breach that impacted employees and patients of Mount Kisco (N.Y.) Surgery Center.

On Nov. 3, the ASC detected unusual activity in an employee's email account and determined May 30 that impacted information included patient names, Social Security numbers, driver’s license or state identification numbers, dates of birth, medical information, including diagnosis information, treatment information, and prescription information, and health insurance information, including claim information and health insurance ID numbers and financial account information, according to a July 10 press release.

The data breach impacted an estimated 22,139 patients, according to a July 5 report from the HIPPA Journal.
