Are male or female more likely to be hospital-employed? A new report from AMA insurance compares employment status for young physicians between men and women.
The survey examines physicians 40 years old and younger. Around 51 percent of the male physicians in the United States are currently 40 years or younger while 49 percent are women.
Here are five six statistics for young physicians:
1. Seventy-five percent of male physicians are employed while 83 percent of female physicians are in employment situations.
2. Seven percent of self-employed male physicians are self-employed while only 5 percent of female physicians are self-employed.
3. There are 16 percent of young male physicians who report being in partnerships; 7 percent of female physicians report the same.
4. Around half of the female physicians are in a group practice; 52 percent of male physicians report the same.
5. Twelve percent of female physicians are employed by medical school while 10 percent of male physicians are employed by medical school.
6. Twenty-six percent of female physicians and 29 percent of male physicians are employed by hospitals.
