Two Kansas men have pleaded guilty in a scheme to defraud Medicare.
According to an Oct. 2 release by the U.S. Department of Justice, Todd Eck and Bradley Eck of Wichita, Kan., utilized four healthcare-related companies they created in order to receive Medicare reimbursements billed for medical procedures.
The Ecks omitted background information about themselves on the Medicare enrollment form to conceal their ownership and control of the businesses. Each omission was used to determine whether the brothers were eligible to enroll, thus rendering all billing reimbursements made by Medicare fraudulent.
Mr. Bradley Eck's license to practice chiropractic medicine was revoked by the Kansas Board of Healing Arts in 2013 for gross negligence, professional incompetence and dishonesty. Mr. Todd Eck's license to practice chiropractic medicine was also revoked by the board in 2018 for violation of an order, fraud during license renewal, practicing medicine without a license, fraudulent medical records and failure to maintain records.
As a part of the plea agreement, the Eck brothers must pay $3.4 million in restitution. Sentencing for the brothers is scheduled for Jan. 13, 2025.
