HRC names Mount Sinai a LGBT healthcare leader — 5 highlights

Six campuses of the New York-based Mount Sinai Health System have been recognized as "Leaders in LGBT Healthcare Equality" by the Human Rights Campaign Foundation, according to Newswise.

Here are five highlights:

1. The six campuses recognized are:

  • The Mount Sinai Hospital, New York City
  • Mount Sinai Beth Israel, New York City
  • Mount Sinai St. Luke's and Mount Sinai Roosevelt, New York City
  • Mount Sinai Queens, Astoria, N.Y.
  • New York Eye and Ear Infirmary of Mount Sinai, New York City

2. Mount Sinai Beth Israel was the first hospital in New York City to receive this honor, seven years ago.

3. The HRC Foundation conducted the Healthcare Equality Index 2016, an annual survey that promotes equal care for LGBT Americans and recognizes healthcare institutions doing the best work. Mount Sinai Health System earned top marks in meeting best practice benchmarks.

4. The Mount Sinai Health System is an integrated health system that includes approximately 6,100 primary and specialty care physicians, 12 joint-venture ambulatory surgery centers, more than 140 ambulatory practices and 31 affiliated community health centers.

5. The HRC Foundation is the educational arm of the country's largest lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender civil rights organization.
