The healthcare industry added 55,000 jobs in July, accounting for 48% of all new employment in the U.S. last month.
In total, the U.S. added 114,000 jobs in July, fewer than the average monthly increase of 215,000 over the last 12 months, according to an Aug. 2 news release from the Bureau of Labor Statistics. The 55,000-job gain in healthcare was also lower than the average monthly growth of 63,000 in 2023.
Home healthcare service roles accounted for the largest share of additions, with 22,000 new jobs, according to the BLS. Hospitals added 20,000, while nursing and residential care facilities added 9,000.
