Compensation for employed versus self-employed physicians — Who rakes in more?

Self-employed physicians have an average higher compensation than employed physicians, according to Medscape's "Physician Compensation Report 2017."

Here are four points:

1. Employed specialists have an average compensation of $287,000.

2. Self-employed specialists have compensation of $368,000.

3. Primary care physicians who are self employed have a $223,000 average compensation.

4. Comparatively, employed primary care physicians have a $214,000 average compensation.
