To determine the best hospitals for ear, nose and throat and the 14 other specialties ranked by the publication, facilities were scored from 0-100 by an analysis of performance measures in three primary dimensions of healthcare: structure, process, and outcomes, which considered factors including expert opinion surveys, patient outcomes and procedure quantities.
