The Ambulatory Surgery Center Association partnered with the American Joint Replacement Registry to encourage ASCA membership to use the registry.
"The data collected by the AJRR will be used by ASCA and our members to support efforts to educate government and commercial payers of the safety, efficacy and good outcomes that result when ASCs perform these procedures and will foster use of ASCs by patients," said ASCA CEO William Prentice.
Here are five key notes:
1. There are now around 6,300 surgeons using the registry and nearly 1 million procedures logged.
2. AJRR hopes to collect data on 90 percent of all total joint replacement procedures.
3. The registry is beginning to collect revision rates and complications to eventually identify implant survivorship.
4. The partnership will promote transparency and surgeon education; there are more total joint replacements performed in ASCs than there have been in the past and ASCs will be evaluated alongside other healthcare facilities providing the procedure.
5. The registry data is designed to help participants provide better patient care. "Significant information can be gleaned from the data of hip and knee replacement procedures, regardless of where the procedure was performed," said AJRR Board of Directors Chair Daniel J. Berry, MD.
