A Census' Quarterly Service Survey found healthcare spending and ambulatory care services spending both jumped during the second quarter this year, according to Investor's Business Daily.
Here are seven things to know:
1. Healthcare services spending increased 6.9 percent from the same period of 2015.
2. This figure is greater than what the Altarum Institute, which monitors health spending, anticipated year-over-year. The Altarum Institute projected a 5.3 percent increase.
3. Ambulatory care services spending totaled $244.3 billion, up 7.3 percent from the second quarter last year.
4. Within ambulatory care services, outpatient care spending increased 9.2 percent and home health services rallied 6.8 percent.
5. Medical and diagnostic lab spending had a 2.7 percent increase while nursing and residential care facility spending jumped 6.3 percent.
6. From last year, hospital revenue increased 6.6 percent, totaling $272 billion.
7. Healthcare services spending comprised nearly 26 percent of total growth in services spending.
