Tenet ups ownership in USPI to 95% more than a year early
Dallas-based Tenet Healthcare purchased the final 15 percent ownership interest in Addison, Texas-based United Surgical Partners International from Welsh, Carson, Anderson & Stowe, upping its ownership to 95 percent. Tenet opted to purchase the remaining 15 percent ownership of USPI faster than the company originally planned; previously, the company planned to complete the final 15 percent acquisition in July 2019.
Investor takes shot at Envision over billing practices
Investment manager Jim Chanos of Kynikos Associates took a shot at Nashville, Tenn.-based Envision Healthcare while speaking on CBBC. Mr. Chanos said Envision is in trouble because of its "deceptive or aggressive use of reimbursement."
OrthoNorCal opens 4th California location
Los Gatos, Calif.-based OrthoNorCal opened its fourth and newest location in Morgan Hill, Calif. Five orthopedic surgeons will see patients at the Morgan Hill location. They are Jeffrey Coe, MD, Erica Fisk, MD, Sandeep Gidvani, MD, Jeffrey Kanel, MD, and Kevin Murray, MD.
Minimally Invasive Vascular Centers of Maryland to open new surgery center
Rockville-based Minimally Invasive Vascular Centers of Maryland will open a surgery center in Laurel, Md., May 3. The center will provide vascular surgery options. Physicians will perform various procedures, including those to address limb loss, stroke, varicose veins, female pelvic pain and uterine fibroids, among many others.
AAAHC shakes up leadership structure after nearly 40 years — Names 13-member board
The Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care changed its governance structure after nearly 40 years, establishing a 13-member board of directors. AAAHC made the decision to transition from the association model to "better position AAAHC to expand in the healthcare accreditation industry."
Somnia Anesthesia names 6th annual Anesthesiologist of the Year
Somnia Anesthesia announced the winners of its sixth annual Anesthesiologist of the Year award and its first annual Anesthesia Resident of the Year award. The sixth annual Anesthesiologist of the Year is Jasper Mesarch, MD, of El Paso, Texas-based University Medical Center. The first annual Anesthesia Resident of the Year is Matt Betz, MD, a resident at Baltimore-based Johns Hopkins University.
Exact Sciences surpasses investor predictions
Exact Sciences announced its first quarter fiscal year 2018 earnings, posting revenues of $90.3 million. The company reported an 87 percent increase in revenues year over year.
