1. Self-employed urologists make an average of $344,000, only slightly more than employed urologists who received $341,000 on average. Despite earning more, only 31 percent of self-employed urologists report feeling fairly compensated, compared with 55 percent of employed urologists.
2. Urologists in healthcare organizations receive $402,000 on average annually. Hospital-based urologists receive $303,000 on average while academic non-hospital physicians, research, military and government-based urologists receive $306,000 per year.
3. Office-based multispecialty group practice urologists receive $401,000 per year; single-specialty group practice physicians receive considerably less at $364,000. Office-based solo practice physicians report $269,000 annually.
4. The top-compensating region of the country is the North Central region, with Iowa, Nebraska, Missouri, Kansas, North Dakota and South Dakota; the urologists in the North Central region receive $394,000 on average.
5. The lowest-compensating region of the country is the Southwest region, with Nevada, Utah, Arizona, New Mexico and Colorado; the urologists in the Southwest region receive $287,000 on average.
