Thirteen physician specialties have reported spending more hours per week on paperwork and administrative tasks in 2023 than in 2022, according to Medscape's 2022 and 2023 physician compensation reports, which surveyed more than 10,000 physicians in 29 specialties.
Specialties spending more time per week on paperwork in 2023:
- Oncology: +2.2 hours
- Otolaryngology: +1.9 hours
- Critical care: +1.7 hours
- Physical and rehabilitation medicine: +1.6 hours
- Family medicine: +1.4 hours
- Urology: +0.6 hours
- OB-GYN: +0.4 hours
- Nephrology: +0.3 hours
- Neurology: +0.3 hours
- Psychiatry: +0.3 hours
- General surgery: +0.3 hours
- Emergency medicine: +0.2 hours
- Pediatrics: +0.1 hours
