10 worst cities for inflation

U.S. year-over-year inflation rate sits at 2.9% as of July 2024, slowing below 3% for the first time since March 2021, according to WalletHub's Changes in Inflation by City report published Aug. 14. 

WalletHub studied the consumer price index change of the latest month compared to two months prior and to one year prior across 23 major metropolitan statistical areas. 

Here are the 10 worst areas in the U.S. for inflation:

1. New York City, Newark, N.J., and Jersey City, Pa.

2. Minneapolis-St. Paul, Minn. and Bloomington, Wis.

3. Detroit, Warren, Dearborn, Mich.

4. Chicago, Naperville, and Elgin, Ill.

5. Urban Honolulu, Hawaii

6. St. Louis, Mo. 

7. Seattle, Tacoma, Bellevue, Wash. 

8. San Diego, Carlsbad, Calif.

9. Philadelphia, Camden, N.J., Wilmington, Md. 

10. Washington, D.C., Arlington, Va., Alexandria, Md.
