ASC Industry Leader to Know: Beverly Robins of HFAP

Beverly Robins is the director of accreditation services for Healthcare Facilities Accreditation Program, a position she has held since October 2011. In that role, Ms. Robins establishes and implements HFAP policy and oversees surveyor training and placement.

Ms. Robins previously served as director of nursing ambulatory care at the University of Chicago and as field director of ambulatory care for Joint Commission. She has experience managing ambulatory surveyors. She also has strong experience with infection prevention and control in ambulatory facilities.

"Qualified personnel must be designated to oversee the infection control and prevention activities of the ambulatory surgery center," she said in an interview with Becker's ASC Review. "Although the designee must have ongoing education about infection prevention and control activities, they are not required to be an infection control nurse. Membership to a professional association such as APIC, the Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology, may be a valuable educational resource for this person."

HFAP is a nationally recognized accreditation organization with deeming authority from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid.
