Trump advisor: Election will decide whether to expand Medicaid: 5 takeaways

A representative of Donald Trump's presidential transition team said the general election will decide whether more states expand Medicaid programs, Bloomberg reports.

Here's what you need to know.

1. Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton will push states to expand both the Affordable Care Act and Medicaid. She additionally will offer states incentives to expand Medicaid.

2. Mr. Trump, the Republican candidate, is following his party and vowing to repeal the ACA and eliminate funding to expand Medicaid.

3. In 2017, states that haven't expanded their coverage will be allowed to waive many of the law's requirements if the state provides a similar coverage.

4. Mr. Trump's representative did not comment on the provision. Republican legislators have expressed their opposition to it.

5. The federal funding for Medicaid will decrease to a 90 percent match under the ACA by 2020.
