Here are three notes pointing to payers pushing procedures to ASCs:
1. UnitedHealthcare’s 2023 site-of-service policy, which went into effect April 1, could push procedures to the ASC setting.
2. Medicare has approved many high-acuity surgeries for ASCs including total knees, total hips, laminectomies, anterior cervical discectomy and fusion, hysterectomies, breast reconstructions, lap cholecystectomies and cardiology procedures, leaders said at a March 22 California Ambulatory Surgery Association summit with payers and industry stakeholders.
3. Cost savings and convenience are pushing procedures to the ASC setting, according to five leaders who spoke with Becker's ASC Review.
