OIG Releases Physician Education Materials on Fraud and Abuse

The Office of the Inspector General has released new physician educational materials to assist in teaching physicians about federal laws designed to protect Medicare and Medicaid from waste, fraud and abuse, according to an AAPC release.

The OIG announced the release of the online materials on Feb. 9. The materials include a Roadmap for New Physicians booklet, Microsoft PowerPoint presentation, speaker's notes and video presentation.

According to the AAPC release, the materials summarize the five main federal fraud and abuse laws — the False Claims Act, the Anti-Kickback statue, the Stark Law, the Exclusion Statute and the Civil Monetary Penalties Law — and give physicians advice on complying with these laws in their relationships with payors.
