New York Attorney General's settlement with 3 national credit agencies to extend timeline for medical billing disputes

New York Attorney General Eric T. Schneiderman recently completed a settlement with major credit-reporting agencies: Experian, Equifax and TransUnion.

The settlement will result in a 180-day waiting period designed to allow payers, consumers and providers more time to resolve medical billing issues and avoid damaging consumers' credit histories.

The waiting period will be implemented in 2018.
