With the ACA entering its third year, many Illinois consumers will pay more for health insurance, according to Commercial-News.
Here are five facts:
1. Many health plans in the state are also changing. Blue Cross Blue Shield of Illinois terminated a popular plan that covered every hospital in the state as a way to keep the payer's costs down.
2. Experts are not certain how much Illinois premiums will rise in the next year, but they have some idea based on recent price data. In Cook County, midrange "silver" plans range from $242 per month to $385 per month. In 2014, silver plan premiums ranged from $226 to $314.
3. Various payers under-priced their plans the last two years, which may account for the rise in prices for 2016.
4. Experts advise consumers to ensure their preferred physicians and medications are covered by their health plans.
5. While financial aid for some consumers may increase, this is not the case for wealthier consumers without employer-based coverage. Marc Pierce of Chicago-based Stonegate Advisors, a healthcare consulting company, said, "Understand what your subsidy is and your buying power and look for the best plan for you."
