Vitals created SmartShopper to generate big savings by reimbursing patients for selecting less-costly treatment, according to NBC News.
Here are four facts:
1. In 2015, Vitals found SmartShopper saved eight health plans nearly $12 million.
2. Through SmartShopper, consumers can earn cash if they receive blood tests, colonoscopies, physical therapies, mammograms and other procedures from less costly hospitals and physicians.
3. Last year, consumers collectively received $1.46 million in incentive payments.
4. Colonoscopies saved the most money for health plans, generating $1,170 in savings per case.
