Nurses and physician assistants are an integral part of a successful electronic health record implementation, according to EHR Intelligence.
A 2008 EHR adoption survey found practices had an 83 percent higher success rate when a nurse was assigned to enter the history of present illness and review of systems data for a patient into the EHR.
However, a recent study showed nurses are also apprehensive about the adoption. Practice administrators and physicians should understand how EHRs specifically benefit nurses to persuade their staff to be on board. This can include adding modules, like a nurse-only urgent care memo or menus to facilitate their workflow and simplify patient billing.
