EHRs fall short in fulfilling physicians' needs: 5 survey findings

A study commissioned by Quest Diagnostics and Inovalon found many physicians lack the tools necessary to support value-based care and EHRs are not giving physicians the data they need.

Here are five survey findings:

1. Among health executives, 75 percent said EHRs fail to provide physicians the data they need. Fifty-four percent of physicians agreed with this statement.

2. Seventy-one percent of physicians said they would be open to allocating more time to using their EHR if it gave them insights individualized to each patient.

3. Of physicians, 65 percent said the one key insight they would want from the EHR would be information on how performance or quality measures apply to each patient.

4. Fifty-three percent of health plan executives said physicians have the tools necessary to support value-based care, compared to 43 percent of physicians.

5. To speed up value-based care adoption, 85 percent of health plan executives said payers and providers should co-invest in HIT.
