Connecticut Rep. John Larson and state surgery center leaders spoke out in support of the recently introduced Ambulatory Surgical Center Quality and Access Act of 2011 in a report from The Connecticut Mirror.
The legislation, which was introduced by Rep. Larson, joining with House Republican Pete Sessions of Texas, would put into place policies to establish reasonable Medicare reimbursement for ASCs by tying ASC Medicare payment updates to the Hospital Market Basket, rather than to the volatile Consumer Price Index for all Urban Consumers. The legislation would also require implementation of a value-based purchasing program for ASCs.
The bill is supported and pushed by the national ASC Association.
In the report from The Connecticut Mirror, Rep. Larson, Lisa Winkler, executive director of the Connecticut Association of Ambulatory Surgery Centers, Joanne Roche, a nurse and administrator of the Hartford Surgical Center, and a federal lobbyist for the ASC Association provided commentary on the importance and value of the proposed legislation.
