The employees of Jacksonville, Fla.-based health systems Baptist Health and St. Vincent HealthCare will soon have a value-based care insurance option available to them through a partnership with Aetna, Nasdaq reports.
Here's what you need to know.
1. The option will be made available to employers and employees of the two systems in Florida's Clay, Duval and St. Johns counties.
2. The plans will be for fully- and self-insured policy holders and employer groups with more than 51 employees.
3. The move is an effort to begin providing value-based care practices in an attempt to increase hospital and patient outcomes.
4. Aetna has piloted the approach in several other regions to the tune of 6.2 million members. Aetna said 40 percent of its provider base is utilizing a value-based approach. It aims to increase that number to 75 percent by 2020. The move helps Aetna in several ways including: reducing costs by avoiding the duplication of services, enhancing care management programs, reducing diseases through preventive measures and several other measures.
