A recent Deloitte poll surveying public health insurance exchange enrollees claimed they are not satisfied with their insurance coverage.
Here are seven notes:
1. Of the enrollees who renewed their insurance coverage, a mere 30 percent stated they were satisfied with their current plan. This is significantly lower than other insured cohorts with 58 percent of Medicare enrollees stating they are satisfied with their plan. Forty-two percent of enrollees insured through their employer are satisfied with their plan.
2. The poll found that HIX enrollees are more cost-conscious, price-sensitive and focused on finding a good plan offering value and fit as opposed to people with coverage through employers, Medicaid or Medicare. A reported 76 percent of HIX enrollees stated the overall amount they pay in terms of premiums, deductible and copays was a vital factor when choosing a plan.
3. Sixty-four percent of HIX enrollees claimed finding good value was crucial when selecting a plan.
4. A reported 41 percent of HIX enrollees cited the availability of a tool to help them select the best plan based on their personal health, finances and preferences was essential when choosing their plan.
5. HIX enrollees are less confident that they can get affordable care they when need it compared to enrollees in employer plans, Medicaid plans and Medicare plans. Twenty-four percent of HIX enrollees reported they were confident they can get affordable care when they need it.
6. Thirty-fix percent of HIX enrollees stated they trust exchanges to provide reliable information about health plans, placing exchanges among the most highly-rated sources of information.
7. Price is a major factor of dissatisfaction among HIX enrollees. A reported 35 percent of HIX enrollees feel they are paying too much for their plan and 40 percent switched plans between 2014 and 2014 to get a lower price.
