It's only the beginning of March, but already data breaches are exposing 1.8 million records, according to a 24/7 Wall St report.
Here are five things to know about the data breaches:
1. There have been 110 data breaches in 2016 so far, with nearly 1.8 million records exposed. This is comparable to the exposures reported last year.
2. The biggest breaches include Centene, which exposed medical information for 950,000 subscribers stored on six hard drives that are currently unaccounted for. The IRS is notifying 700,000 letters to taxpayers who may have had their records compromised.
3. The business sector has the largest percentage of total breaches, with more than 110,000 exposed records in 43 incidents. Around 39 percent of the incidents were related to the business sector.
4. The healthcare sector accounted for 36 percent of the data breaches this year to date, with more than 1.27 million patient records exposed. The patient records exposed are more than 71 percent of the total exposures in 2016.
5. In 2015, there were 781 breaches all together, comparable to the 783 reported in 2014. There were 169 million record exposures last year.
