5 Questions to Assess ICD-10 Vendor Readiness

Medical practices need all vendors to be ICD-10 ready by the Oct. 1, 2014, deadline to ensure a complete and seamless transition, according to ICD-10 Watch.

Once your practice identifies its vendors and reviews the contracts, next contact vendors and ask some of the following questions:
•    Will your products be updated by the deadline?
•    Will any costs be involved?
•    Is there a phased implementation?
•    Will any applications be eliminated once ICD-10 becomes the standard?
•    Does your company provide any customer support or training?

After getting these questions answered, your practice may need to select a new vendor to meet all of your needs. When selecting a new vendor, be sure to ask how their product will integrate with your current system and infrastructure, according to the report. Ask them to assess the cost and time of transition so you may factor that into your current ICD-10 timeline.
