Lakewood, Colo.-based Pinnacle III shared four tips for ASCs attempting to secure payer contracts in a post on the company's blog.
Here are the key details to know:
1. Needs assessment. When securing ASC payer contracts, newly opened ASCs need to assess their cash reserves, line of credit and the time needed to establish payer contracts.
2. Credentialing physicians. Credentialing requirements vary by payer, and take time to set up.
3. Negotiating reimbursement. ASCs shoudn't automatically accept low reimbursement rates.
4. Resource gathering. ASCs who are prepared to cover six to 12 months of operating costs can then lay a reimbursement foundation and ensure long-term success.
