Around 32 percent of physician practices say they participate with six to 10 insurers, according to a Medscape Insurer Ratings Report 2011.
Another 30 percent participate with 11 to 20 insurers. According to the report, there was little variation in the number of insurers physician practices participated in based on region of the country, but practices in the West were somewhat more likely to contract with fewer than five insurers.
