The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services is seeking comment on seven proposed medication-related quality measures, according to an American Hospital Association news release.
Although the measures were designed for use by states and/or health plans, they are being considered for other care settings, such as physician offices.
The seven measures focus on improving medication adherence, appropriateness of therapy and patient outcomes:
1. Adherence to antipsychotics for individuals with schizophrenia.
2. Adherence to mood stabilizers for individuals with bipolar I disorder.
3. Adherence to antiplatelet treatment after stent implantation.
4. Polytherapy with oral antipsychotics.
5. Avoiding acetaminophen toxicity.
6. Short-acting opioid formulation for breakthrough pain in individuals with cancer.
7. Bleeding outcomes related to oral anticoagulants.
