The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services has sent a letter to State Survey Agency Directors reinforcing the requirement that surgery centers may not limit surveyor access to ASC activities, according to an ASC Association release.
The letter emphasizes that surveyors are not required to sign documents or provide proof of vaccinations or obtain a surgeon's consent to observe a surgical procedure. However, surveyors must obtain patient consent prior to observing surgery, and consent must be given through direct communication between the patient and surveyor.
