The Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care will award its first ever Center of Excellence Award in Orthopaedic Certification to The Surgery Center of Long Beach (Calif.).
Here's what you should know:
1. The AmSurg-affiliated center will be the first surgery center to receive AAAHC's new certification. The certification recognizes the surgery center's high-quality orthopedic services.
2. AAAHC developed the certification in response to growing demand from accredited centers. To become a Center of Excellence, an ASC must be AAAHC accredited and must meet a number of relevant criteria.
3. The certificate has two levels of recognition. Surgery Center of Long Beach achieved the advanced certification, "which establishes the center’s ability to perform complex procedures safely and effectively as well as care for patients that are more complex."
AAAHC's Vice President of Accreditation Services Tess Poland, RN, said, "We are pleased to award the Surgery Center of Long Beach our inaugural Orthopaedic Certification for demonstrating excellence in orthopedic care and compliance with rigorous industry standards. The center produces strong clinical outcomes and displays the qualities that we look for in a top-performing ASC. We commend Surgery Center of Long Beach for becoming a leader in total hip and total knee replacement, demonstrating a commitment to higher standards of care for the patients in their community."
AmSurg Regional Vice President and Total Joint Program Coordinator Troy Sparks, RN, also lauded the surgery center.
