Here are six clinical findings from the AAAHC Institute for Quality Improvement 2010 study on knee arthroscopy with meniscectomy. Thirty-nine organizations participated in the study.
Procedure times
1. Median pre-procedure time was 91 minutes (range 56-138). Organizations with the shortest times attributed their results to careful scheduling and gathering patient information prior to the procedure.
2. Median discharge time was 73 minutes (range 37-123). Organizations with the shortest times attributed their results to factors such as short-acting anesthesia combined with local anesthetics and preparing patients to expect short discharge times.
Patient outcomes
3. 90 percent said they were able to schedule their procedures as soon as they wanted.
4. 99 percent said they experienced little or no discomfort during the procedure.
5. 96 percent had begun walking (with or without crutches).
6. 99 percent would recommend the procedure to a friend or relative.
