The president of the N.J. Association of Nurse Anesthetists is calling for changes that would allow CRNAs to provide anesthesia to hospital patients without the supervision of a physician in an op-ed column for The Times of Trenton.
In the column, Jamie Eisenberg, APN/anesthesia, CRNA, president of the N.J. Association of Nurse Anesthetists, challenges information from N.J. anesthesiologists, including commentary in a recent op-ed column from Ervin Moss, MD, executive medical director of the N.J. State Society of Anesthesiologists, and provides background details on the qualifications of advanced practice nursing/anesthesia.
The N.J. Department of Health and Senior Services has proposed to eliminate, within hospitals, physician supervision of advanced-practice nurses who specialize in anesthesia. The proposed pieces of legislation are A2268 and S2218 and are sponsored by Assemblyman Vincent Prieto (D-Secaucus) and Sen. Loretta Weinberg (D-Teaneck).
