North American Partners in Anesthesia anesthesiologist, Joseph Marino, MD, and his research team are conducting a study to develop a multimodal analgesic technique for patients experiencing postoperative pain after undergoing a total knee arthroplasty.
In the study, Dr. Marino and the team will compare EXPAREL administered via infiltration into the surgical site with the current standard of care — continuous femoral nerve block in the management of TKA postoperative pain. The objective of the study is to provide patients with optimal pain relief while minimizing or eliminating the use of opioids.
Dr. Marino serves as a chief of anesthesia for Franklin Hospital in Valley Stream, N.Y., and Syosset (N.Y.) Hospital. He also serves as the director of regional anesthesia for the New Hyde Park, N.Y.-based North Shore-LIJ Health System and as associate professor of anesthesiology at the Hofstra North Shore-LIJ School of Medicine.
