The president of Kaweah Delta Health Care District in Visalia, Calif., recently explained the rationale behind the district's switch in anesthesia providers, a decision that has drawn some criticism from the local community, according to a Visalia Times-Delta report.
According to President Carl Anderson, the recent change in anesthesiology leadership was made to "ensure the highest possible level of service and quality." According to Mr. Anderson, anesthesia will continue to be provided by physicians and certified registered nurse anesthetists, and CRNAs will be closely supervised by a physician.
Mr. Anderson defended the decision by pointing out that many of the nation's top healthcare facilities, including the Mayo Clinic, Johns Hopkins and UCSF, use physician anesthesiologists and CRNAs.
He asked residents with concerns about the direction of anesthesiology care at Kaweah Delta Health Care District to speak to a Kaweah Delta board member.
