Canton-Potsdam Develops Total Knee Replacement Pain Protocol

The Canton-Potsdam Hospital in New York developed a pain protocol to benefit total knee replacement patients, according to North Country Now.

The protocol consists of pre-operative pain relievers and spinal anesthesia and other painkillers during the operation, such as an intra-articular block. Post-operatively, patients receive a polar care device on their knee and scheduled medication doses.

Physicians modeled the program after those used at New York University’s Langone Medical Center and Johns Hopkins Hospital, according to the report.
