ASA Presents Coordinated Care Model at White House Roundtable

The American Society of Anesthesiologists presented its Perioperative Surgical Home model of healthcare to policy leaders at a White House roundtable.

Representatives from the White House, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services and the Department of Health and Human Services were present. The roundtable's purpose was to seek physician input in identifying healthcare delivery gaps and hear ideas for improvement.

Mike Schweitzer, MD, presented ASA's model for coordinated care and highlighted anesthesiologist's role in the acute care setting. Dr. Schweitzer also pointed out the general lack of inclusion of hospital-based physicians, such as anesthesiologists, in accountable care organizations.
