The American Society of Anesthesiologists presented Henrik Kehlet, MD, PhD, with its 2014 Excellence in Research Award.
The award was given to Dr. Kehlet in recognition of his contributions to anesthesiology research. He is known for his research and writing in surgical pathophysiology, surgical stress response and the transition from acute to chronic pain, among other topics. His research led to the creation of the concept of fast-track surgery or enhanced recovery after surgery.
Dr. Kehlet is a professor of perioperative therapy and head of the Section for Surgical Pathophysiology at the Rigshospitalet in Copenhagen in Denmark.
