Anesthesiology Had Second Highest Participation Rate in 2009 PQRS

CMS data show among 10 specialties, anesthesiology had the second highest percent of eligible professionals participating in the 2009 Physician Quality Reporting System, according to an Anesthesia Business Consultants news release.

The CMS report, "2009 Reporting Experience Including Trends 2007 – 2010," provides data on participation trends among healthcare specialties. In the claims-based individual measures reporting method, anesthesiology had 41.1 percent of its eligible professionals submit to PQRS, second only to emergency medicine, which had 62.8 percent. Nurse anesthetists had the fifth highest percentage, with 29.3 percent of eligible professionals participating.

Anesthesiology had 46.2 percent of participating eligible professionals earning incentive in the claims-based individual method and 32.4 percent in the claims-based measures groups' method.
