Vemuri Murthy, MD, chairman of the department of anesthesiology at West Suburban Medical Center and chairman of Project SMILE in Illinois, was recognized at the Illinois Global Health Consortium in Elmhurt as the annual Global Health Champion award winner, according to an India West report.
Dr. Murthy was recognized for his work to promote hands-only CPR throughout the state of Illinois, as well as his activity in the American Heart Association, teaching courses on advanced cardiovascular life support.
Dr. Murthy graduated from Gutur Medical College in 1974 after attending the All India Medical Institute in New Delhi. He is currently chairing a project in India to introduce mandatory resuscitation courses in all medical colleges.
