The Association of University Anesthesiologists has appointed Rita M. Patel, MD, to a three-year term on its educational advisory board. Dr. Patel's membership will begin at the AUA's 60th Annual Meeting in April 2013 in Miami, Fla.
Dr. Patel is a professor of anesthesiology and the vice chair for education at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. She is currently the university's designated institutional official for the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education and the National Residency Matching Program. In these positions, Dr. Patel oversees the medical school's ACGME-accredited training programs and the matching program for all residency and fellowship programs.
Dr. Patel is also associate dean for graduate medical education and a representative to the Association of American Medical Colleges Group on resident affairs for the university. She received her medical degree from American University of the Caribbean School of Medicine.
