The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services will potentially include epidural and transforaminal injection coverage in its annual National Coverage Decision topics, according to the American Society of Anesthesiologists.
CMS uses the NCD process to determine if its coverage is reasonable or needs to be adjusted. The governing body will not review all 32 topics, and approximately 10 are chosen each year, according to the report.
A review for a topic results in a referral to the Medicare Evidence Development & Coverage Advisory Committee for an assessment. A draft decision and comment period follows.
