Anesthesia information management companies Picis, GE Healthcare, Draeger, iMDsoft, Merge and Phillips will battle for market share over the next few years, as the anesthesia device market grows to an expected $4 billion in 2017, according to an iData Research report.
The growth of the anesthesia device market will be driven by a boost in sales of anesthesia management systems, according to the report. Kamran Zamanian, MD, CEO of iData Research, said the market for AIMS will increase by over 50 percent in 2012 as hospitals automate their anesthesia departments ahead of the 2015 deadline outlined in U.S. legislation.
According to the report, unit sales are expected to increase through 2017 as new companies force market leaders to introduce low-cost, low-acuity models.
