Anesthesia & Analgesia Retracts 22 Articles Published by Dr. Joachim Boldt

Medical journal Anesthesia & Analgesia has announced the retraction of 22 articles it published by Joachim Boldt, MD, PhD.

The decision to retract the articles comes after the publication received notification from Landesärztekammer Rheinland-Pfalz, the Rheinland State Medical Board, that there was no institutional review board approval for 89 articles published by Dr. Boldt, including 22 published by Anesthesia & Analgesia from 1999-2009, according to a news release from the International Anesthesia Research Society, publisher of Anesthesia & Analgesia.

The 22 articles are about half of the papers he has published in Anesthesia & Analgesia. The publication knows that a few of Dr. Boldt's articles have proper IRB approval, with the balance still under review.

Anesthesia & Analgesia had retracted an article by Dr. Boldt last year because it was possibly based on a study which never occurred and lacked IRB approval. Dr. Boldt was fired last year from his job as head of anesthesia at the Klinikum Ludwigshafen following investigation into the article.
