ASCs have been slower to implement EMRs than their hospital counterparts, but Anesthesia Business Consultants President and CEO Tony Mira predicts change is inevitable.
Two keys to effective EMR implementation:
1. Designate a staff member to work closely with the EMR vendor. This person should help ensure the system is modified to meet the practice's unique billing and documentation requirements.
2. Set up a way to verify how many records were received. Certain ones aren't identified for a slew of reasons, such as software updates.
