The ongoing shortage of anesthesiologists has been top of mind for many ASC leaders, with some facilities canceling or delaying procedures due to shortages of providers.
Nearly 30% of anesthesiologists are forecast to leave the practice by 2033, according to data from Medicus Healthcare Solutions, which may lead to a shortage of 12,500 anesthesiologists nationwide.
According to the most recent Bureau of Labor Statistics employment survey, there are 33,470 actively practicing anesthesiologists in the U.S. However, some cities are better populated than others.
