Michigan Physician Pleads Guilty to Fraud

Ali Makki, MD, a physician from Dearborn, Mich., has pleaded guilty to three separate felony charges, including healthcare fraud, falsifying documents and failing to correctly report income, according to a report by Crain’s Detroit Business.

Dr. Makki admittedly filed false claims to Medicare from July 2004 to Sept. 2009, which brought him an extra $113,777. Moreover, he falsely filled out an immigration form for a patient so that the patient would not need to meet requirements for naturalization. In 2003, he failed to include cash receipts on his federal income tax return.

Dr. Makki faces up to 30 months in prison, according to Crain’s Detroit Business.
